Frequently asked questions
We know you may have questions about our company, our services, and tree care in general. Below are answers to some of the questions we're frequently asked. If you can't find the answer you're looking for, please give us a call at 336-399-8348 and we'll be happy to help you.
Do you provide free tree service estimates?
Yes, we do! We do not charge to visit your property to provide a tree removal, trimming, or other tree work quote within our service area around Winston-Salem, NC.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept many forms of payment, including cash, personal or business checks, and credit card payments. We even offer financing!
Can you give me a quote over the phone?
No. Each situation is different and until we examine the site, we are unable to provide an estimate.
Estimates are given by our tree care professionals based on things such as the condition of the tree, its location, structures around or below it, proximity to power lines, how easily it can be accessed with our equipment, and much more. Those are things that can only be determined by an expert who knows what to look for.
How soon can you get the job done?
After you've provided written or online acceptance of our proposal, we can schedule your tree service.
We're sure you understand that scheduling is always dependent on the weather (we can't safely do some types of tree work in poor weather). We also take into consideration the availability of equipment, scheduling for our workers, the best timing to deal with specific pests and diseases, and more. In other words, it depends...
We do recognize that you may be anxious to get the work done as quickly as possible, and we will work with you to find a time that's mutually acceptable. Our goal is always to provide an assessment and quote within one week of your call and to complete your tree work within one to three weeks.
Please contact our office at 336-399-8348 if you have any specific scheduling requests.
What kind of insurance do you have?
We are fully insured specifically for tree care work (unlike some companies that only carry "landscaper" coverage). This means that any work we do on your trees is covered by our insurance policy, including in the unlikely event of damage or injury.
We also carry full workers' compensation insurance for all of our employees.
We encourage you to ask any tree service company you're considering working with for copies of their certificates of insurance.
Why is it necessary for a tree company to have insurance?
By its very nature, tree work is dangerous and should only be done by professionals. Liability insurance is important because it protects you, the homeowner, and your property from potential risk and damage. Workers' compensation insurance protects tree professionals while they are working on a job. When you are seeking to hire a tree company, be sure to request proof of comprehensive insurance from their insurance carrier before any work is started. If you have any doubts, call the insurance carrier for verification.
What should I look for in a tree service company?
You want an industry leader with the experience, people, and equipment to get the job done right. Check out the reviews of any company you are interested in hiring to get an idea of how their customers feel about the work they do. And always make sure they company's employees are up-to-date on the latest safety, equipment, and procedures training.
What is a Certified Arborist? Why should I hire a tree service company with an arborist on staff?
A Certified Arborist has a broad base of knowledge about tree and woody plant care, pesticides, safety, and related technical matters. In order to become a Certified Arborist in North Carolina, tree care professionals must demonstrate exceptional knowledge and experience, adhere to a professional code of conduct, pass a difficult and lengthy exam overseen by the International Society of Arboriculture, and take continuing education courses to maintain their certification.
At Godspeed Tree Service, our owner, Bobby Gates, is a long-time Certified Arborist, showing our commitment to industry expertise and standards.
Insist on hiring tree service and tree health care companies with these certifications when you are looking for expert local services.

Please see our Service Area page for more details.
When you cut down a tree, do you also remove the stump?
Stump grinding is an extra service that's not typically included in the cost of tree removal unless you specifically ask us to include it.
When removing a tree, we cut the stump as close to ground level as possible without causing damage to our equipment or your property.
If you'd like to have the tree stump removed after the tree has been cut down, we can provide a separate estimate for that.
Learn more about stump grinding on our Stump Grinding page.
Will there be any damage to my property from tree removal or trimming?
We make every effort to protect surrounding turf and plantings when doing tree work, such as by using special mats to protect your turf from damage when we need to use heavy equipment on your property. And, of course, we're always careful to avoid damage to structures such as your house!
However, the risk of damage is inherent in tree work. For example, tree removal and pruning usually means that large pieces of heavy wood are being lowered or dropped onto your lawn, so minor lawn damage is inevitable. Lawn repairs are not included in the contract price unless otherwise noted.
